Welcome to the Fetal Behaviour Research Centre

Understanding the behaviour of the human fetus presents one of the greatest challenges to scientist, clinicians and parents in the present day.

The Fetal Behaviour Research Centre, established via a grant from The Wellcome Trust, is home to research exploring the behaviour of the fetus.

This research undertaken by the Centre will lead to a greater understanding of the behaviour of the fetus which can be used to better and improve the care and well-being of the individual.

The key aims of the research centre are to:

  • gain a better understanding of all aspects of prenatal behavioural development
  • investigate the behavioural, perceptual and learning abilities of the fetus.
  • examine the effects of prenatal experiences upon behaviour and development before and after birth.
  • improve techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of fetal abnormalities.
  • provide a source of information for mothers during pregnancy about their unborn baby.
